Please help support the ongoing activities of the Institute with your contribution.
The Institute was founded with the first program in gerontology in Canada in 1979, and is currently conducting interdisciplinary social science research with members throughout the faculties and departments at the University, as well as across the country and internationally. Recognizing that aging is a multi-faceted process, the Institute places emphasis on multi- and interdisciplinary research. It undertakes collaborative projects with departments and faculties across the University; it endeavours to develop and maintain close links with researchers in other universities and to liaise with government and social agencies.
Research
The Institute conducts interdisciplinary, applied and basic social science research from a life course perspective on life course, and aging.
Faculty, post-doctoral fellows and students from a broad range of disciplines work in a collaborative environment that fosters research and education, and acts as a catalyst to bring together University researchers from teaching hospitals, government, and social agencies, offering leadership on research, planning and policy issues.
Education
The Institute also has a mandate to generate educational opportunities at the graduate level with a Collaborative Program in Aging Palliative and Supportive Care across the Life Course. Seminars, lectures and informal discussion groups take place on a regular basis and play an important role in the Institute’s activities, such as our webcast Seminar Series and online workshops.
