The Wilfred George Scott Fellowship in Gerontology

Deadline to apply: June 30, 2023

This fellowship is granted annually to a registered University of Toronto graduate student doing research in the fields of social, psychological and economic aspects of aging.

Preference will be given to students registered in the Collaborative Specialization in Aging and the Life Course who have demonstrated high academic achievement. Please include two sealed letters of reference with your application. (Referees should email letters in pdf format directly to aging@utoronto.ca)

Please note that the exact amount of this Fellowship varies from year to year as it is more vulnerable to market fluctuations than the other awards; the estimate may be below or above the actual amount to be received. 2023 Award amount: $2,771

 

The Helene and George Coward Award in Gerontology

Deadline to apply: June 30, 2023

This award is granted annually to a registered University of Toronto graduate student who is engaged in research in the field of aging (tenable with other awards or fellowships). 2023 Award amount: $1,010

Preference will be given to students registered in the Collaborative Specialization in Aging and the Life Course who have demonstrated high academic achievement. The Leon and Blossom Wigdor Award for Studies in Aging

Deadline to apply: June 30, 2023

This award will be granted annually to a registered University of Toronto graduate student pursuing a research degree who is involved in studies on aging dealing with the psychological, social or behavioural sciences and aging. The award will be made on the basis of financial need. (PLEASE FILL OUT OSOTF FINANCIAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT FORM – link below). 2023 Award amount: $5,467

Preference will be given to students registered in the Collaborative Specialization in Aging, Palliative and Supportive Care across the Life Course who have demonstrated high academic achievement. Please include two sealed letters of reference with your application. (Referees should email letters in pdf format directly to aging@utoronto.ca)

 

The Abugov Award in Aging

Deadline to apply: June 30, 2023

The Abugov Award is designated for studies in aging/gerontology with a focus on Social Justice for Older Adults/the Aged and is to be awarded annually on the basis of financial need and academic merit to a registered University of Toronto graduate student enrolled in the Social and Behavioural Sciences and majoring in studies of aging and working in the areas of adult education/learning, educational gerontology, social justice or social policy issues concerning aging or the aged. (PLEASE FILL OUT OSOTF FINANCIAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT FORM – link below). 2023 Award amount: $3,344


Your Award/Fellowship application package for each of the four awards listed above must include the following:

  • A letter stating your name, address, home department, degree sought, year in degree program, details regarding your research and professional goals
  • Current CV
  • Complete post-secondary academic transcripts (photocopies are acceptable)
  • Letters from TWO faculty referees familiar with your achievement and potential and research area. One of these referees should be your thesis director. Referees should email letters in pdf format directly to aging@utoronto.ca
  • OSOTF Financial Needs Assessment form (required for Leon and Blossom Wigdor award and Abugov Award)

Northwater Capital Management Award in Aging

No Deadline to Apply, limited to one application per academic year.

This award is to support travel and related conference expenses for registered University of Toronto graduate students presenting a paper in the field of aging or gerontology. The paper may be co-authored, and presented in any standard format (e.g. formal presentation, poster session).

The award will be made on the basis of financial need. (PLEASE FILL OUT OSOTF FINANCIAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT FORM). The quality of the paper and the academic promise of the student will also be considered. Since conferences are held throughout the year, there is no deadline for this award. Application for this award must be made prior to conference travel.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to be eligible, applicant must be duly registered in the School of Graduate Studies, University of Toronto at the time of applications and at the time the conference is held.

Students are encouraged to apply throughout the year; the number of awards and the amount available for each successful applicant will be determined by the number of requests received and the resources available at any given time.

The paper to be presented must be submitted in final or polished draft format. A supporting letter from the student’s supervisor must be submitted giving an opinion of the student’s academic promise and, in the case of a co-authored paper, describe the degree of contribution of the student to the paper.

Your Northwater Capital Management Award application package must include the following:

  • The paper to be presented
  • An official letter from conference organizers confirming acceptance of paper/poster to be presented
  • A supporting letter from the student’s supervisor must be submitted outlining the student’s academic promise
  • A cover letter detailing student’s specific financial needs i.e., conference details including name, date and place of conference, as well as including basic information about the conference (is it peer reviewed? will an abstract be published?) and a list of actual/estimated expenses related to the conference
  • Student must be presenting OR CO-PRESENTING (this requires a note from the PI or 1st author)
  • Proof from ROSI that you are a registered graduate student in the term in which you are travelling.
